Yoga at BCS

Have you met our new yoga instructor Jess? She is the person behind Anjali Yogi and teaches two yoga classes a week at Belconnen Community Centre.

Yoga classes at BCC are an affordable way to try yoga for the first time or to continue your existing practice. Classes are just $15 ($13 concession) for a casual visit, or $145 ($125 concession) for a 10 Class Pass.

It’s okay if you’re a beginner. These yoga classes are suitable for everyone. Our previous yoga instructor, Natalie, wrote some helpful tips for people new to yoga. Remember it’s okay to be a beginner and the idea of the beginner’s mind is actually revered in yoga practice.

There are plenty of reasons to begin practicing yoga. It can improve your flexibility, your concentration, and you can make new friends within our classes.

Yoga can also be a great way to gently relieve back pain while reducing stress and tension.

Start Standing says, “Yoga postures will strengthen the muscles of the core which will help you maintain proper posture. Sitting for too many hours for too many years combined with a lack of resistance training results in a weak core. Some people have back issues because they lack the strength in their core and back to maintain proper posture”.

The best Yoga poses for your back include:

  • Downward facing dog
  • Upward facing dog
  • Child’s pose
  • Cat and Cow pose
  • Triangle pose
  • Chair pose
  • Pigeon pose.
