About

BCS runs a School Holiday Program for young people each ACT Public School Break throughout the year. Based at the Belconnen Youth Centre, the program includes a range of in centre activities and external excursions selected to reduce the social isolation and boredom that the school holidays can bring for vulnerable young people.

Each School Holiday timetable is different and offers a wide range of skill based, engaging activities that are available to anyone aged 12 – 25 years accessing the Belconnen area. This is a voluntary program that encourages social, emotional and skill development through youth participation and engagement. Our team of experienced youth workers will supervise young people who enter the space or participate in our activities, however we are not a care service and take no responsibility for young people who choose to leave the Belconnen Youth Centre or the company of our staff. BCS staff also reserve the right to ask participants who are not meeting behaviour expectations to leave the space. A parent or guardian will be contacted where possible.

Open Access Activities

On days where in-centre activities are being held, the centre will operate as a drop in service with scheduled activities available for those who wish to participate. Young people can come and go from the centre as they please, and are not required to stay for the full duration of the day. Young people do not have to join in with the programmed activity, but can choose to hang out, chat to the youth workers or use our facilities.

Excursions:

A School Holiday Program permission note is required for ALL off-site excursions that are marked with an * in the attached flyer. Only young people who have returned their permission forms and been accepted to attend excursions may access the Belconnen Youth Centre, the centre is closed to those who have not been accepted into the planned excursion. Permission forms need to be signed by a parent or guardian if participants are under 16 years of age (participants over 16 years of age may sign their own form).

Excursion and activity details may change without warning, however we will do our best to communicate any changes to you.
