Novel coronavirus (COVID-19) – Information and Advice

13 March 2020

On 11 March 2020, the World Health Organisation declared the new strain of coronavirus called ‘novel coronavirus’ or ‘COVID-19′, a pandemic.

Belconnen Community Service is aware of the risks this poses and is monitoring the situation closely. We are prepared to act swiftly to protect our participants and employees if the need arises.

COVID-19 in the ACT

ACT Health recommends the following good practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitiser for 20 to 30 seconds
  • Cover your cough and sneezing with a tissue or your inner elbow and wash your hands afterwards
  • Discard used tissues immediately into a bin
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Stay at home and avoid social activities or mass gatherings

You can download the Prevent the Spread of Germs poster (pdf) provided by ACT Health here.

For the most up-to-date, accurate information relating to COVID-19, please refer to the ACT Health website.

BCS’s response to COVID-19
