Belconnen Community Gallery, Belconnen Community Centre, Swanson Court, Belconnen

‘Voices of the Market’ documents the activities, challenges and aspirations of market vendors, primarily women, in the Solomon Islands.

In April this year Andrew Plant travelled to the Solomon Islands to capture images in support of the Markets for Change Project (M4C Project). Delivered by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), M4C aims to ensure marketplaces in rural and urban areas in Fiji, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu are safe, inclusive and non-discriminatory, promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.

“I was not only exposed to the daily challenges faced by market vendors from farm plot to market stall, but to their enthusiasm in developing a cohesive voice and being active participants in defining their future opportunities through market vendor associations.” says Andrew of his experience.
