BCS bushfire appeal

8 January 2020

The 2019-2020 NSW bushfires have left utter devastation in its wake. Many families are still displaced, properties have been destroyed, and wildlife have been left helpless.

Belconnen Community Service is always seeking ways to serve our community – not just in Canberra but also in the surrounding region. We galvanised when this crisis hit our friends across the border.

BCS a collection point for Belconnen

BCS nominated itself as a collection point in Belconnen for bushfire donations on 2 January. With the help of community volunteers, we packed over 100 boxes for G Spot Canberra and Yass Bushfire Relief Centre on 7 January.

BCS will continue as a collection point as long as the need remains. But we want to do more, and we know our community does, too.

Monetary donations

If you would like to donate money to the RFS, bushfire victims, or effected animals, you can now donate to BCS. Details below:

BSB: 032778
A/C: 220406

We will keep communication lines open with local relief centres and divert the monetary and physical donations we receive according to need. There will be absolute transparency during this process, with updates provided on this website and on our Facebook page.

Buy a bale initiative

BCS have partnered with John Fife & Co who have kindly offered to supply hay at their best price and will assist with transport to areas where it is needed most.

If you would like to purchase a bale, you can donate money to BCS and we will buy it from and coordinate transport with John Fife & Co.

Need help? Get in touch

We are actively seeking to support grassroots organisations coordinating bushfire relief items for people and animals.

Are you an organisation in need of funds or items? Contact us on 6264 0200 or reach out to us on social media – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or LinkedIn. We will help in any way we can.

A community centre for evacuees

Belconnen Community Centre is opening its doors to evacuees in Canberra who don’t yet have a home to go back to. If you are searching for a place to take a shower, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, or just relax and gather your thoughts, come to Belconnen Community Centre at 26 Chandler St, Belconnen. All you will need to bring with you is identification to verify your original place of residence. Everything else will be provided for you.

A disaster of this scale will need our community’s sustained support. Belconnen Community Service is committed to supporting people and communities within the Capital Region and beyond. This bushfire appeal is just one way we can show our support.
