PATH (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope)

PATH Program, Helping people with a disability and their families to achieve life goal is one of several futures planning tools that can assist people with a disability (and their families) plan and work towards turning their aspirations and dreams into real and possible futures. It is a creative, visual process which helps everyone involved to think creatively in finding solutions and good outcomes, and where the PATH participants are given the opportunity to enrol people they would like to help them along the way during their PATH journey.

The process helps people to identify practical steps that will need to be taken to help them achieve their goals. The process is co-facilitated by two people trained in the PATH process – a process facilitator (Facilitator) and a graphic recorder (Grapher). There is an introductory meeting followed by the PATH session itself which takes approximately 3 hours to complete.

The Belconnen Community Service’s PATH Program has three components:

  1. The first component is providing people with disabilities and their families access to a powerful futures planning tool, called PATH (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope).
  2. The second component of the program is to work with all of our PATH families assisting them to keep in touch, network and support each other through a variety of means, including regular family network gatherings, newsletters; and the establishment of a PATH Families Blog site where families can share their experiences, discuss issues, and find useful links to other resources.
  3. The third component of the program is to provide PATH training for people who wish to become PATH Facilitators and Graphers. We hold regular refresher workshops for existing facilitators and graphers who may wish to re-energise and develop their facilitation skills.
