On the weekend of 16th and 17th March 2013 a group of BCS colleagues and friends will come together with other supporters and survivors of cancer at the Australian Institute of Sport to take part in this year’s Relay for Life.
"Relay For Life is an incredible overnight event that is an opportunity for family, friends and colleagues to get together with the community and celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and fight back against a disease that takes too much." - www.relayforlife.org.au
Team Captain, Sarah Helmers is the driving force behind our team The BCS Blazin Batons. She leads a team that’s determined to raise much needed funds for cancer research and in the process win the Best Dressed Tent Award.
"I was meant to organise this race and that glitter, sparkle, solar fairy lights and glow sticks I have arranged, will win us the Best Dressed Tent." – Sarah Helmers
Everyone on the team has a personal reason for taking part and most of them have been touched by cancer one way or another.
Graham McKerchar Program Manager Transport will be relaying in memory of his grandmother who was claimed by cancer when he was 14 years old. He will also be remembering his brother’s partner, who was taken too early on March 5th 2011.
Carol Kennedy is walking to support her brother- in-law who was recently diagnosed with cancer. He is a young family man and father to three beautiful young children.
Relay For Life will be held from 12:00pm Saturday 16th March – 12:00pm Sunday 17th March 2013 at the Australian Institute of Sport, Leverrier Street, Bruce, ACT.
