- DISH@oatley [the DISH] is the Disability Information Support Hub at 60 Oatley Court, Belconnen.
- DISH is a co-location of services for people with disability that includes Belconnen Community Services, Woden Community Services, House with No Steps and Disability ACT. The DISH brings together shared expertise, skills and knowledge and a consolidation of resources into one accessible space in Belconnen.
- The aim of each of these services is to strengthen the capacity of people with disability, their families and carers to maximise their control over their lives. Essentially these services can assist with planning for the future, information about services and supports; referral and linkage to services and programs.
What is the DISH@oatley?
- Local Area Coordination - LAC's role is around assisting people to self manage, develop personal advocacy, family support and community development and link people to informal and formal supports. LAC aims to make disability services and supports more personal and local.
Who is it for?: people with disability under the age of 65 who are residents of the Woden Valley, Weston Creek, Tuggeranong, Belconnen and Gungahlin areas. - PATH - Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope is a planning tool that assists people to identify hopes and aspirations and turn these into real and possible futures.
PATH is a visual process using graphics which encourages everyone involved to think creatively and come up with different solutions about achieving their goals. Two trained facilitators guide people through the process. A person can choose to include family, friends, carers and supporters. The PATH process takes about 3 hours. - Transition Service - The Transition Service is open to all school leavers in the ACT with a disability. Public, catholic and independent school students. This service is provided by House with No Steps (HWNS), and delivers individually tailored information, and support to young people and their families for up to three years after the young person has left school. However, planning and some support will begin while the young person is still at school.
Who is it for? The service links school leavers with community organisations and facilities to develop vocational skills, participate in training, volunteer work as well as develop social, personal, recreational and living skills - WESP - Work Experience and Social Placement Program supports students with disability to choose and participate in a work experience or social placement opportunity. WESP works with students individually to determine their interests, source venues for the placement and provide ongoing support throughout the process. This service is provided by House with No Steps (HWNS).
Who is it for? WESP is available to Year 9 and 10 public school students with disability in the ACT. - Disability Information Service - Disability ACT Information Service provides a centralised contact point for people with disability, their families and carers, and other members of the ACT community that guides people to the range of supports available for people with disability in the ACT. The Information Service is also the point of referral for Disability ACT's Respite Service and Registration of Interest.
Who is it for? Available to all ACT residents. - Housing Options Facilitator - Housing Options Facilitator is responsible for developing information tools, providing planning facilitation and delivering community education. The Housing Options Facilitator is available to assist people with disability to identify and develop housing options that best meet their individual needs.
Who is it for? The Housing Options Facilitator works with people with disability up to 65 years of age who are seeking assistance in relation housing options who are not already planning with a community agency. - Community Development Officer - Community Development aims to assist people to be aware of, participate, deliberate and contribute in a meaningful way to things that affect them in their local community. The Community Development Officer builds real opportunities for people with disability to be included in, and contribute to, the social, recreation and economic life of their local community.
Who is it for? Organisations or individuals who are developing programs or events and want to know more about how these activities can be more inclusive.
