Community Engagement

Community Engagement programs at BCS include a range of activities that promote collaborative practice and support the development of community owned and run activities in the Belconnen region. Programs are generally free or low cost opportunities for community members to connect with each other. The program also provides opportunities for workers in the Community and Government sectors to come together to share skills and information to enhance service delivery. The Community Engagement Program responds to suggestions from the community and the sector and helps to develop projects and ideas through the sharing of resources, assets and information. The program also assists with the distribution of information within the sector and the broader community.

Some examples of support and assistance provided by the Community Engagement Program include:

  • Assistance with production and distribution of publicity material for community groups and events. For example: Community Festivals and activities that celebrate the lives and achievements of particular target groups such as Mental Health Week, International day of People with a disability and National Youth Week.
  • Financial assistance for target groups to cover the costs of venue hire and/or group facilitation.
  • Identifying existing community skills and assets and generating projects that enable sectors of the community at risk of social isolation to become connected through the sharing of these skills and assets. For example: Mother’s Voice Workshops, Belco Flicks film nights and the SNAP photography project for young people.
  • Creation and maintenance of targeted information distribution networks through email and social media.
  • Coordination and promotion of Belconnen Community Sector interagency meetings.
