BIG BREAK @ BELCO!

Break dance crews, Hip Hop artists, and individual dancers strut their stuff in dance at the Belconnen Theatre. This free event is being presented by U Turn Youth Service in Belconnen as part of National Youth Week on Friday, April 07, 2006.

Already confirmed for the event are Lockdown, Fresh Funk, and Blindside, with appearances expected by dancers from Legs and the Dance Co amongst others. DJ Rush and MC Omar will be contributing their enormous talents to the setting.

National Youth Week provides an ideal opportunity for young people to enjoy and participate in the “street culture” of Canberra in an art form that is popular and crosses cultural boundaries, in a youth friendly environment. The event, believed to be the first of this type in Canberra, will invite and encourage young people to see their peers perform with a view to inspiring and developing breakdance in ACT youth, and showcasing the talents of those already involved. The event will focus on a particular interest group and help give increased status to this activity, which is by and large a youth based and initiated activity that goes unrecognised in the wider community in Canberra.

The Youth Coalition of the ACT is supporting the event for National Youth Week, with assistance from the Arts and Cultural Development Program at Belconnen Community Service.

There are 3 ways you can be part of the Big Break @ Belco:

come and watch; get down on the floor and show your stuff in the free sessions; register your crew on the day and compete in the “official” face-off!
