At the Belconnen Gallery and Theatre
1st - 10th March 2006
You are warmly invited to the coming launch of the Belconnen and Northern Arts Network ACT (BANANA). The Network has been established to promote the development of artistic and cultural activities by providing resources and assistance to the artistic and cultural community, and through this, assists cultural development in our region.
BANANA’s first event is an exhibition of 2d and 3d works by some 30 local artists at the Belconnen Gallery, Theatre, and Community Centre, combined with short film and performances of music, poetry and theatre.
The exhibition opening will be held from 6.00 – 8.00pm Wednesday 01 March 2006, with performances and closing of the exhibition on Friday 10 March also between 6.00 and 8.00pm.
See some selected images from the BANANA ONE Exhibition, photos of the launch, and from the performances.

The purpose of the BANANA Party is to:
· showcase a number of artists across many artforms including theatre, music, visual art and craft, film, dance, and literature, by exhibiting selected two-d and three-d works in the Belconnen Gallery and Community Centre, and
· stage short performances and other events in the Belconnen Theatre and environs.
The Party will be an opportunity for many artists to get together, possibly for the first time, and see each others’ work, and to be introduced to and encouraged to join BANANA.
BANANA’s goals are to:
· gather relevant information, communicate it and promote arts and cultural activities for the benefit of members
· support artists and arts organisations
· enable forums, workshops and other ‘exchange’ opportunities for the benefit of members
· inform network members of arts and cultural resources
· advocate and lobby on behalf of network members, and
· establish, sustain and build membership of the network.
BANANA has been established as a sub-committee of Belconnen Community Council. BANANA has already had a public presence at the Belconnen Festival in November 2005, and THE BANANA PARTY at the Belconnen Gallery and Theatre is our first major event!
