Day to Day Living Program July 2010 – June 2011

Day to Day Living Program operates out of the BCS Tuggeranong Office at the Southern Cross Sports Stadium from Mondays through to Wednesdays. It is an Australian government initiative funded by the Department of Health and Ageing and managed by BCS.

Participants of this program live with moderate to severe mental health issues, and are able to access a range of free or low cost recreational, cultural, social and educational activities within the program.

The past year has been busy, productive and interesting.

Each term, a variety of courses has been on offer including: our Activity Smorgasbord which has explored Felting (Needle and Wet felting techniques); the Computing group for beginners; the Creative Writing group; and the Photography group. There were also Café drop-ins and movie mornings during holiday breaks.

Monthly excursions have extended the activities of the different groups and this year included excursions to: National Museum; Royal Mint; National Gallery; Botanic Gardens; Zoo & Aquarium; Weston Park; Pitch n Putt; National Portrait Gallery and the Glassworks. At the very least free entry and coffee has been part of the excursion, and sometimes a yummy lunch or snack as well.

The major excursion, 3 days to Tuross Head for a Coastal Creators Camp in May 2011, was a social and creative highlight for the year. Participants enjoyed: sunshine, sand and sea; good food; writing and artistic activities; games and various kitchen hand experiences.

The photographs with this report highlight some of our creative endeavours.
